Still, this story raised my eyebrows because it's nuts. And unlike a lot of the folks out there, I believe the waitress did deserve to be fired. Long story short, a preacher ate at the restaurant and wrote the following craziness on a receipt--"I give God 10% why do you get 18" in reference to the tipping policy at Applebee's.
The waitress took a picture with her phone and posted it to Reddit. The company fired her because it is company policy to not disclose personal customer information.
Petitions are being written for the waitress to get her job back, but she was wrong. Granted, it sounds like this preacher is living in the 1940's and has probably seen the Jesus-snuff film, "Passion of the Christ," a billion times. However, no matter how ridiculous customers may be (within the confines of the law of course), they should still be awarded the right to confidentiality when they visit a business establishment.
Granted, I WOULD have told the story to my friends because it's too ridiculous to keep quiet. However, I would have told it like this, "I waited on some religious freak who actually wrote on his receipt I give God 10%, why do you get 18. What a wack job!" It is a funny anecdote. However, the freak's name is not in my story because his confidentiality should be protected.
So good luck to the waitress on getting another job--I hear the town crier position is open. As for you, Mr. Preacher, you sound miserable already so I have no advice for you other than good luck to your friends and family who have to put up with you. And Applebee's, seriously look into your customer service policy. Unless something major has happened in the five years I have not been there, it sucks.
